MagnaDamp^®: A Unique Magnetic NVH Solution for Localized Damping

MagnaDamp® is a highly cost-effective material for adding both damping and stiffness to any flat magnetic surface. MagnaDamp^® eliminates or shifts troublesome resonances and booms commonly observed in flat parts like roof panels, door outers, quarter panels, and home appliances.

MagnaDamp^® has exceptional loss factor values which allow small pieces to provide better damping than mastics up to four times larger. It also adds “stiffness faster than mass” making MagnaDamp^® a weight-efficient means of shifting resonant frequencies.

MagnaDamp^® requires no welding. Simply apply the magnetic MagnaDamp^® material in the desired location, even on an inverted surface, and process the part through any normal e-coat and paint cycle. MagnaDamp^® forms a permanent bond to the base part during the bake portion of the cycle.

MagnaDamp^® also can be applied and held in place by its magnetic layer without further processing, making it ideal for “field fixes” and other post-assembly applications. Finally, by eliminating welding and other costs associated with patch-constrained layer (PCL) products, MagnaDamp^® can reduce both capital expenses and assembly labor costs.
