Quiet Steel®: A Unique Material That Reduces Noise,
Weight, and Cost.
MSC Quiet Steel® is a unique Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) damping material that uses an engineered viscoelastic layer laminated between two sheets of steel to meet application-specific damping, temperature, stiffness and operating environment needs. Quiet Steel® can be supplied as continuous coil or blanked sheets with corrosion-resistant electrogalvanizing on one or both sides, or with a variety of coatings from forming lubricants to pre-paint.
Recognized by Automotive News as one of the top technologies to watch, and winner of the prestigious Pace Award™, Quiet Steel® is currently used at GM, Ford and DaimlerChrysler for a variety of brake, powertrain, and body structure applications. Various versions of Quiet Steel® are currently used in thirteen North American stamping facilities and welded in eight OEM body shops.
Quiet Steel® is also used in the appliance industry and other consumer products to reduce noise transmission and improve customer perceptions of quality and value. When finished with MSC’s ElectroBrite® zinc-nickel galvanized coating process that delivers the look of stainless steel, Quiet Steel® allows industrial designers to create eye-catching, pleasing designs, using a material that is more flexible, creates more value for the customer, and offers better, more stable pricing.
