Electrogalvanizing: Corrosion Resistance is Only the Beginning
Electrogalvanized steels are the automotive industry’s preferred solution for corrosion-resistant exterior body panels and fuel tanks. MSC supports this effort with one of the world’s widest in-line cleaning, electrogalvanizing and laminating lines – the 72-inch (1,828 mm) installation at our Walbridge, Ohio facility. It’s able to produce 1-side galvanized, 2-side galvanized, and differentially coated strip that’s delivered ready for stamping and assembly.
But, that’s only the beginning. MSC offers customers a choice of traditional zinc, or high-performance zinc-nickel plating with five times more corrosion protection. Zinc-nickel plated surfaces are not only uniform, but are easily formed, bent, welded, and painted. MSC’s capability ranges from 10-90 g/m2 for zinc and 10-40 g/m2 for zinc-nickel.
MSC also provides a whole range of after-plating treatments and organically coated zinc and zinc-nickel products. These provide chemical resistance along with corrosion resistance which is particularly important in automotive fuel tanks.

The coating is a combination of a chrome seal, metallic filled, epoxy paint and a soap-based dry film lubricant that aids in stamping.
Additional Products that can be applied at Walbridge include:
- Conventional zinc phosphates with chrome and non-chrome based sealers
- Zinc-rich primers including Henkel Surface Technologies
- Granocoat and PPG Bonazinc.
- Dried-in-place phosphates
- Acrylic-based, dry film lubricants
